1st Fundamental of Success
I’m reading a book called, “The Success Principles”, by Jack Canfield. He’s the guy that wrote the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book series. In his book, he lays out those principles that are necessary for success. The first foundational principle he gives us is this: “You have to take 100% responsibility for everything that you experience in your life.”
He also gives this quote:
“You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself.” — Jim Rohn
I believe this is true. What do you think?
If it is true, then to have success losing fat, getting lean, gaining muscle, having successful relationships, building wealth, having a strong spiritual life, continually improving mentally, or anything else worthwhile, we have to take responsibility for ourselves and our lives. You and I are responsible for the results we see in our lives. If we want a fit and healthy body, a wonderful marriage, or more income, then the first step toward those ends is taking responsibility and realizing that no one except for ourselves can give us those things. We are completely responsible for the results we currently live with.

Hi Darryl,
there is what happens – I think like an Auschwitz. There are things which happen which are beyond our individual control. However HOW we respond to it and experience it, that we have full control of. However to gain that level of self-mastery requires correct information and self programming, mentally, emotionally, and physically, don’t you find?

Hi Daryl,
Had the good fortune to meet you at a Kevin Hogan event about 2 years ago (time flies doesnt it?) and just discovered your site.
I agree with you 100% on this. My life started changing dramatically for the better when I quit blaming my parents for my lot in life & started accepting full responsibility for how I reacted to everything & for every decision I made.
We can’t control everything that happens to us but we can sure control how we choose to respond & how much we let it occupy your time & energy.
My favorite quote these days is from Henry Rollins:
“Anyone who can make you lose your temper can control your life”
