Hi Darryl,

That is such sound advice for fitness and for so many other aspects of life, too, isn't it? Sometimes as dating coach, I hear from single women that they want to "Get Married." As if that will be the magic pill for the perfection in their lives. And yet, don't you find that married life is all about the daily relationship sharing?

BTW, thanks for your superb fitness tips and kick in the butt (with love, of course) reminders. You're the best, Darryl.

Happy Dating and Relationships,

Sounds advice. That motto is good in all areas of life but especially in the weight loss - getting fit area!

I'd like to increase my flexibility. Any flexibility exercises you could recommend for a beginner, and over 50 lady?

Hi Daryl,

This is so true! There's still a lot of people who think they can do "easy" workouts and expect their body to magically respond.

Your advice about lofty goals requires lofty persistent efforts over time makes perfect sense!

It is scary. Most of my friends are overweight. As a matter of fact, I am the thinnest one of all my friends who are about my age. It's so easy to gain that two pounds a year because it's gradual. I refuse to buy clothes in a larger size. When clothes start fitting too tightly, I just work out more and cut down on the goodies!

When I used to work out with weights at the gym, I had several women comment to me that they would NEVER do that because they didn't want to look like the female body builders on the cover of the muscle magazines! It was difficult to keep from laughing at them. They talked as though the female body builders look like that by accident. Not only does it take years of work, dieting, etc. but as you say, genetics plays an important part too.

Great post. This is not only true of muscle magazines, but for many fashion and "health" magazines. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a picture of a beautiful thin woman with a totally flat toned tummy on the cover of a magazine with a cation that says something like "flatten your tummy in just 10 days!" It gives people false hope. Sure, the exercises may help people to eventually have a "flatter" abdomen if followed religiously for at least several months, but only about .000001% of the population is going to be able to see a difference in 10 days. Thanks for getting this information out there.

Hi Darryl

You're so right about the muscle magazines these days. They are basically supplement catalogs with a few articles squeezed in there.

Look at a muscle magazine from the 70's and you'll see tht they used to be about 70% content & 30% advertising. But nowadays they seem to be the exact opposite of that.

Long live books!

Hi Darryl,

I like how you point that out about physical fitness magazines. I had heard that and certainly noticed that previously. You pointing out the super usefulness of physiology books is excellent. I had not realized that formerly.

thanks!

Darryl,
Been some time since I've been here. Hey..I believe you are so right on. Nothing beats hard work..good food...and plenty of rest!!!

I hear so many people after they look at a muscle mag say..."I don't ever want to look like that" many women think that they will get "bulky" if they train. As you pointed out before...that ain't going to happen.

Good post Darryl. See ya later!

PS. I got my MMAConditioning Coaches Cert. last month. Maybe we can plan a mma boot camp together. ;-)

Hi Daryl,

Had the good fortune to meet you at a Kevin Hogan event about 2 years ago (time flies doesnt it?) and just discovered your site.

I agree with you 100% on this. My life started changing dramatically for the better when I quit blaming my parents for my lot in life & started accepting full responsibility for how I reacted to everything & for every decision I made.

We can't control everything that happens to us but we can sure control how we choose to respond & how much we let it occupy your time & energy.

My favorite quote these days is from Henry Rollins:
"Anyone who can make you lose your temper can control your life"
